Prof. George Saitoti-Great leader who left us too early.We celebrate him.


George Saitoti (3 August 1945 – 10 June 2012) — Hon. Prof. George Saitoti, Previously Minister for Education. Prof. George Saitoti, the Minister for Provincial Administration and Internal Security joined Mangu High in 1960 and later Cambridge School Weston, USA. He held a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science and PhD in Mathematics, from University of Brandeist (USA), Sussex, Brighton and Warwick University, England respectively. He joined university of Nairobi as a lecturer in 1972 where he rose to be the Chairman of Mathematics Department before he was nominated as a Member of Parliament and Minister for Finance in 1983. He served in this capacity until he was appointed Vice President and Minister for Finance in 1989 after successfully vying for Kajiado North Parliamentary seat in 1988. He was again re-elected in 1992 and appointed Vice President and Minister for Planning and National Development. In 1997 he won the same seat and appointed Minister for Planning and Development. In 1999 he was re-appointed Vice President. Between 2001-2002. He was moved to Ministry for Home Affairs, still in his capacity as vice president. After the 2002 general elections he retained his seat and was appointed Minister for Education, Science and Technology. He is credited for the far reaching reforms in the Education Sector in Kenya. Saitoti has also served in other capacities like Vice-President of African Mathematics Union (1976-1979), Chairman of International Monetary Fund (IMF)/World Bank Group (1990), Chairman, Wages Council (1972-1974 and Member, East African Legislative Assembly (1974-1977). His wife, Margaret Saitoti, was with him when the High Court dropped charges on the 16 years Goldenberg case. His brother, Ronald Musengi, has been a banking executive with the Kenya Commercial Bank. Recently Musengi applied to be a member of the National Police Service Commission. Prof. George Saitoti – Wealth Prof. George Saitoti was an astute businessman who had interests in agriculture, horticulture, real estates, hospitality and pastoralism. Prof. George Saitoti – Death Saitoti died on Sunday 10th June, 2012 at 9 a.m. when a police helicopter carrying him and assistant minister for internal security Joshua Orwa Ojode exploded and crashed in the Kibiku area of Ngong forest killing them both. He was 66 years old at the time of his death. At the end of the Day Prof. George Saitoti was a great man and leader who led Kenya into prosperity...we will miss him dearly.may the lord rest his soul in eternal peace.Amen
