There is this notion by the Kenyan youth that getting pregnant at a young age is far much worse than getting infected with HIV/AIDS. There are those that don’t use condoms simply because they don’t like them, I know this sounds stupid but the latter is not that much better off…they use condoms simply because they are afraid of getting pregnant and if they could get other ways of avoiding pregnancies then that’s like a call to ditch all security measures and go on an all out sex rampage.
With so many ways to avoid pregnancies nowadays and their cheap costs and availability, most people now even don’t bother using condoms anymore. Is the threat of society labeling you irresponsible for being a parent at a young age much worse than getting infected with the world’s number 1 killer disease?! Sure people are living for years looking and feeling healthy with HIV nowadays but I really doubt it’s worth the hustle when there are ways of avoiding this. Most will blame their parents for being so hard on them and instilling that fear in them, some of us grew up knowing that it would be “Off with our heads” if we made the mistake of bringing that baby home at a young age or before marriage but even with this fear, I think we all need to look hard and realize that we are in charge of our own lives and the outcome will be as a result of the choices we make now.
It’s you who will get infected, it’s you who will have to live with it, it’s your future, it’s your life not theirs! Style up and look to what’s important, the many times you have fun in the sexual escapades or your future that you so look forward to and dream of being happy in.
I am not on a roll trying to campaign for the use of condoms, I am just saying that it’s about time we take control of our own futures, I was born in the era where we were “kicking polio out of Kenya” and we did it, now join the fight against Hiv/Aids in Kenya and the world and we can do it too, if we set our minds to it. So let it be written, so let it be done!
